A bill passed the state senate earlier this week that is intended to discourage people from tricking the unemployment compensation system.
Seante Bill 1109, according to a statement from Senator Joe Pittman, is intended to prevent unemployment compensation recipients who apply for a job from discouraging their own hiring in an unreasonable manner. It requires the Department of Labor and Industry to create or update forms enabling employers to report unemployment compensation claimants who discourage their own hiring through a process that’s called “job dodging”. Those people may skip out of a job interview or refuse employment or referral for employment to continue receiving unemployment compensation benefits.
The bill is now on its way to the State House.
