IUP WOMEN’S TENNIS DOMINATES ATLANTIC REGION CHAMPIONSHIP

The IUP women’s tennis program, in the words of IUP Athletics, had “quite a day” yesterday at the ITA Atlantic Region Championships at Millersville.

First, Karolin Kirchtag and Katy Graydon teamed up to win the doubles championship over IUP teammates Natasha Munday and Joanna Stralka, winning it 12-10 in a tiebreaker.

Then, doubles partners became singles rivals, as Kirchtag beat Graydon, 6-1, love-6, and 10-7 in a singles semifinal tiebreaker.  Kirchtag then beat Slippery Rock’s Lois Page in the title match, 6-7, 6-4, 10-6 in a tiebreaker.  Kirchtag finished the tournament a combined 10-0 in singles and doubles.

The titles were IUP’s first ITA regional championships under head coach Larry Peterson and are believed to be the first in program history.
