The first official day of fall was earlier this week and some municipalities are already looking ahead to fall leaf and limb collections.
Indiana Borough has announced that their department of public works will have limb collection the week of October 4th. Limb collection will only happen one week in Indiana borough, as they plan on retrofitting the chipper for leaf collection later in the season. Limb collection traditionally happens the day after garbage collection in each ward. Limbs must be placed where garbage and recycling is traditionally placed between the sidewalk and the curb. Public works can only collect limbs smaller than six inches in diameter. All the chipped material will be taken to the Indiana County Recycling Center to be turned into mulch.
Meanwhile, White Township has announced their leaf collection for this year. Leaf collection is scheduled for five consecutive Mondays starting on October 25th and going to November 22nd. White Township officials say that leaves should be placed in biodegradable bags, with a weight limit of 50 pounds a bag, and that the bags contain leaves only, no limbs or other household rubbish.
