BASEBALL
Homer-Center scored two runs in the bottom of the 7th to force extra innings, then Nash Budner punched a bases loaded single into left field in the bottom of the 10th to drive in Drew Fisher with the winning run as the Wildcats rallied for a 5-4 win over Cambria Heights, handing the Highlanders their first loss of the season. Homer-Center loaded the bases on Fisher’s single, a single by Owen Saiani, and a walk to Caleb Palmer before Budner’s walkoff hit. Braden Rado had three hits for the Wildcats and Saiani and Nate Birchall each had two. Caleb Palmer started and went five-and-a-third, striking out 9, including his 100th career K. Budner got his first career win, going 4-and-a-third innings in relief and striking out 4. Garrett Jasper had 3 hits and Carson Lobick had 2 for the Highlanders.
River Valley scored three runs in the bottom of the 7th for a walkoff 7-6 win over Portage. Zeke Doak’s two-run single drove in the tying and winning runs. Doak, Gavin Burkhart, and Merreck Smith all had two hits. Caden Vresilovec hit a 2-run home run and Niko Vadala struck out 8 in five innings for the Panthers. Jake McCoy, Easton Slanoc, and Justin Morgan all homered for Portage.
United held off Penns Manor, 4-3. Caden McCully and James Kordish each had 2 hits for the Lions. Kayden Detwiler had two for the Comets.
Conemaugh Township outscored Marion Center, 12-3. Zack Petree had 3 hits and drove in 3. DJ Bambino had two hits and four stolen bases, and Colin Dinyar and Luke Haight each had 2 hits for the Indians. For the Stingers, Trent Slovinsky had 3 hits and Isaac Reaugh had 2.
A slugfest for West Shamokin and Conemaugh Valley, with the Wolves prevailing, 18-15. They scored 8 runs in the 3rd inning and 5 runs each in the 5th and 6th. Jude Olinger had 3 hits and 4 RBIs and Kash Julius and Cash Brocious each had 2 hits. For the Blue Jays, Lance Masser had 3 hits and drove in 7 runs. Jeremy Dietz and Logan Heinlein each had 3 hits. West Shamokin committed 7 errors and Conemaugh Valley 5.
At the Curve Classic in Altoona, Central beat Northern Cambria, 13-1.
Ben Ryan kept up his torrid pace but Indiana lost to Peters Township, 11-6. Ryan had two doubles, a home run, and 5 RBIs for Indiana in the non-section loss. Mark Collinger had 2 hits for Indiana.
SOFTBALL
Indiana blitzed Woodland Hills, 17-0 as Addie Stossel and Kylee Cass threw a five-inning no-hitter. Ella Myers, Hannah Ianarelli, and Olivia Zimmerman all doubled for Indiana.
Marion Center walloped Conemaugh Township, 11-2 as Lydia Miller, Maci Miller, and Alivia Ruddock all had 2 hits and Kaily Anderson and Ella Gaston each hit home runs. Kayla Hill struck out 8 for the win.
River Valley had only two hits but scored 3 unearned runs and shut out Portage, 3-0. Lilly Buckles and Callie Reaugh had the two River Valley hits. Sara Bollinger struck out five for the Panthers.
Cambria Heights topped Homer-Center, 8-5. Olivia Deckard and Ellie Bender each had 3 hits for the Highlanders. Bekah Marshall and Alaina Fabin both had 3 hits for the Wildcats.
Purchase Line’s Brooklynn Walker had two hits, including a triple, and she drove in 4 runners to lead the Red Dragons to a 9-7 win over Northern Cambria. Kaitlynn Houser had 2 hits for PL. Alexa Fox had 3 hits for the Colts. Skye Bernecky, Makayla Formeck, and Rylee Stine all had two hits and Lainey Vasil hit a home run.
West Shamokin clobbered Conemaugh Valley, 13-1. Avery Elkin had 3 hits, including 2 doubles, and Leah Mondi doubled twice as well.
