BASEBALL
Indiana rumbled over Hampton for the second straight day. Jake Slebodnick recaps the win.
United doubled up Homer-Center 8-4 as Evan Thomas and Isaac Worthington each had two hits and two RBIs. Homer-Center committed four errors in the first inning, helping United take a 5-1 lead. Freshman Ryan Felix got his first career win, throwing 6 innings, giving up 4 runs on 8 hits with no walks. Noah Turk had two hits for the Wildcats.
A 3-run 7th gave Marion Center a come-from-behind 5-4 win over Conemaugh Valley. Alex Stewart had three hits, including a double, and Camden Rising doubled and drove in 2. Noah McCoy threw four shutout innings of relief to earn the win, striking out six.
Northern Cambria trounced Penns Manor, 22-7 in 4 innings. The Colts scored 5 runs in the first, 3 in the second, then 8 in the 3rd and 6 in the 4th to put it away. They collected 9 hits and took advantage of 5 errors. Zach Lockard had 2 hits and drove in 3 runs. For Penns Manor, Carter Smith doubled and drove in 3.
Unbeaten Cambria Heights took a 6-0 lead into the 7th and held off a 4-run rally to top River Valley, 6-4. Garrett Jasper went 6 scoreless for the undefeated Highlanders, striking out 6. Heights had six hits by six different players. For River Valley, Caden Vresilovec had 3 hits, Gavin Burkhart had 2, and Niko Vadala doubled and drove in 2.
Portage’s Jake McCoy threw six scoreless, one-hit innings, striking out 11 as the Mustangs beat West Shamokin, 4-2. Trae Kargo drove in 2 for Portage, For the Wolves, Nevan Smulik had 2 hits.
Conemaugh Township belted Purchase Line, 16-4. DJ Bambino, Colin Dinyar, Brennan Lohr, Larry Weaver, and Luke Weber each had 2 hits for the Indians. AJ Chambers had 2 hits, including a double, for the Red Dragons.
SOFTBALL
Cheyenne Silvis and Lydia Miller each had three hits to lead Marion Center over Conemaugh Valley, 11-6. Silvis struck out 8 to earn the win.
Homer-Center took a 7-0 lead after two and held off United 9-5. The Wildcats provided no stats. For the Lions, Abby McConville doubled twice and homered. Madisyn Burkett and Alexis McElwee each had two hits.
Cambria Heights got a run in the first inning but that was all Sara Bollinger and River Valley gave up as they beat the Highlanders, 3-1. Izabella Speal singled in a run for the Panthers to tie it in the third inning, and Bollinger’s run-scoring single gave River Valley the lead, 2-1 in the 4th. Bollinger, Speal, and Lilly Buckles each had two hits and Bollinger had 2 RBIs, plus she struck out 7 in the circle.
West Shamokin hammered Portage, 11-1. Maria Young and Madi Keirn each had 3 hits and Malena Stewart, Avery Elkin, and Lily Jordan all had 2. In the circle, Leah Mondi struck out 10.
Penns Manor scored 8 runs over the final three innings to down Northern Cambria, 11-8. Allison Rhea had 4 hits, including a home run, and she struck out 10. Macey Pegg had 3 hits, Rena Fennell homered and had 2 hits, and Katie Bertolino drove in two. For NC, Hayley Dumm and Megan Lubert each had 2 hits and Lubert homered and drove in 3. Rylee Stine also homered.
Purchase Line walloped Conemaugh Township, 19-4 in 3 innings. Kaitlynn Houser homered, doubled, and had 3 hits and 4 RBIs. Brooklyn Walker doubled and tripled and Bella Cessna and Kadence Nedrow each had 2 hits.
