The Pitt Panthers’ defense failed to show up at Heinz Field and the Panthers were upset Saturday by Western Michigan, 44-41.
Kenny Pickett threw for 382 yards and six touchdowns, and passed Dan Marino for second place on Pitt’s all-time passing yards list, but the Panthers’ defense could not get off the field, allowing Western Michigan 517 yards of total offense and a dominant 40:15 of ball possession.
Penn State held off a late charge by Auburn to defeat the Tigers, 28-20, at Happy Valley. Quarterback Sean Clifford was 28-for-32 for 280 yards with two touchdown passes.
Late in the game, Penn State stopped Auburn on four downs after a first-and-goal from the ten-yard line, taking over the ball at the two. After having to punt the ball away, the Nittany Lions allowed Auburn to advance to their 23, but Jaquan Brisker batted away a fourth-down pass just shy of the end zone.
