Northern Cambria won the Heritage Conference boys’ golf championship yesterday by a single stroke over River Valley. The Colts shot a combined 393. Homer-Center finished third.
Defending conference champion West Shamokin was hit by covid quarantine this week and did not have enough players to field a team.
The Wolves’ Sean McCullough won the individual title with an 18-hole total of 79, making it two years in a row for both West Shamokin and the McCullough family. Sean’s brother Jack won the championship last year. River Valley’s Cole Stuchal finished second, with a 91. Northern Cambria’s Nathan Bolvin shot a 92 to finish third.
On the girls side, Homer Center’s Julia King won the individual championship with a 52. Northern Cambria’s Riley Olish shot a 54 and Homer Center’s Ava King shot 59.
The District 6 team qualifier is next week.
Indiana’s boys and girls golf teams were both in action yesterday. Déjà vu for the boys, who for the second time in three days lost to Latrobe by three strokes, 209-212.
Indiana’s Harrison Martineau was medalist with a 38. Alex Holuta and Trevor Todd both shot 40. Gabe Nettleton was also in the 40s, shooting a 43.
The girls lost to Hempfield, 177-209. Indiana had two golfers in the forties, Jenny Todd with a 48, and Addie Raykes shot a 49.
VOLLEYBALL
A big Heritage Conference volleyball game last night, as Homer Center downed West Shamokin in four sets. The Wildcats lost the first set, 25-15, but took the next three, 25-18, 25-17, and 25-18. Mya Fatula had a great day with 23 digs. Macy Sardone had 37 assists and 15 service points. Ashlynn Kerr has 21 service points. Marlee Kochman and Meegan Williams each had nine kills and Gabi Page had six.
Indiana’s girls beat Woodland Hills, 3-0. Emily Madey had 19 assists and five aces. Audrey Josephson had 12 assists and four aces. Abbie Huey led in kills with nine and also had three aces. Peyton Ream had 6 aces and Lauren Brocious had eight digs.
Indiana JV also won their match 2-0.
