The Pittsburgh Pirates kicked off their road trip with a win against the Miami Marlins 12-2 in Miami.
The scoring started for the Pirates with Jordy Mercer hitting a solo home run to left field in the first inning, but the runs came big in inning two. The Pirates scored eight runs, starting with James Harrison’s RBI single to score Fransisco Cervelli and keep the bases loaded. Mercer took a walk to bring home Jose Osuna, and McCutchen hit an RBI single of his own after that, scoring Gift Ngoepe. In his second at-bat in the inning, Cervelli hit a bases clearing triple ot score Mercer, Mccutchen and Gregory Polanco, and Osuna also got a second at-bat and an RBI, scoring Cervelli.
The Pirates and the Marlins play again tonight starting at 6:45 on WCCS.
