A late game rally for the Pirates turned into a 4-3 victory against the Washington Nationals in the series opener on Friday night.
The Pirates were trailing 3-2 going into the 9th inning when the Colin Moran hit a sac ground out to Josh Bell that scored Anthony Alford. Ke’Bryan Hayes then hit the walk-off single to right field to score Ben Gamel to win the game. Steven Brault left the game after two innings with left arm discomfort. Chad Kuhl picked up the win in relief.
