Several citizens at a special town hall meeting in Coral last night voiced their opposition to a detox facility going in the former home of the Grapevine Restaurant.
St. Michael’s Sanctuary, LLC is proposing putting in a 28-bed on-hospital detox inpatient facility at the former restaurant site on First Street. The facility would treat dual diagnosis patients that suffer from both addiction and mental illness. While the facility is faith-based, it would be fully licensed with the state and similar to facilities like Conewago in Burrell Township and SpiritLife in Cherryhill Township.
However, some local residents were not in favor of the proposed site. That included Center Township Supervisors Chairman Dave “Butch” Smyers, who said that he and others opposed the move for two main reasons.
Jason Link of St. Michael’s Sanctuary said that there is not a reason for concern as many people using the facility would be doing so on the advice of experts.
Smyers added that the main reason why St. Michael’s wanted to come to Coral is because of the available property. While Link said as of right now, they are not looking at other properties, they are keeping their options open.
