While the average cost of a gallon of gas has held steady across the nation, the state and local averages have gone up.
Triple-A reports that the national average cost for gas is now $3.18 a gallon. That held steady over the Labor Day driving period and some shutdowns ahead of Hurricane Ida. The refineries that shut down are expected to come back online later this month. Gasoline stock levels are currently at a healthy 227.2 million barrels, but those stocks could tighten up until refineries resume normal operations, and that could mean more increases.
In Pennsylvania, the average cost of a gallon of gas is $3.29. That is up a penny from last week at the start of the Labor Day driving period, and up nearly two cents from a month ago. Last year at this time, Pennsylvania’s average was $2.50 a gallon.
Indiana County’s average went up two cents over the last week to $3.32 a gallon, tying it with Clearfield County. The lowest average in our region is in Westmoreland County at $3.29. Armstrong County’s average is $3.30 a gallon. Cambria County has a $3.33 a gallon average, and the highest average is in Jefferson County with $3.35 a gallon. The highest state wide average is Cameron County at $3.45 a gallon. The lowest average is in Carbon County at $3.20 a gallon.
Gas prices in Indiana Borough and White Township are hovering around $3.29 a gallon, according to GasBuddy.com, while gas prices Blairsville are at $3.35 a gallon. Prices in Clymer are at $3.39 a gallon and prices in Homer City are at $3.45 a gallon.
