For the ninth time this season, the Pirates failed to sweep a team when given the chance, making them the only team in Major League Baseball to not get out the broom this year.

Pirates manager Derek Shelton says Cabrera’s four straight hits last night (combined with his three hits in his final three at-bats on Tuesday) are more evidence of why “Miggy” is headed to the Hall of Fame.
Pirates’ starter JT Brubaker has been shut down from throwing a baseball for the next five to seven days because of a “shoulder impingement.” He’s currently on the injured list after leaving the game in Chicago last Saturday.
Sports medicine director Todd Tomczyk also says pitcher Duane Underwood Jr. is undergoing testing on his ailing shoulder, and utility player Michael Chavis is progressing from his injured elbow, suffered when he dove for a ball in the outfield. Chavis is gripping a ball and doing some light hitting but is not throwing yet.
The Bucs are off today and begin a three-game set at PNC Park tomorrow against the Washington Nationals.
