Fire departments from Indiana County helped with a search yesterday for a missing boater from Indiana County that has not been seen since Saturday.
Rescue teams from Clymer, Commodore and Cherry Tree Fire Departments were dispatched Tuesday afternoon to join in the search efforts to locate 53-year-old Matthew Paul Birmingham of Cherry Tree, who went boating last Saturday. He apparently launched his boat from the West Branch of the Susquehanna River in Cherry Tree Saturday afternoon. The boat was found by kayakers late Monday afternoon about 10 miles up the river behind a home on Route 219 in Bell Township, Clearfield County between Mahaffey and Burnside.
Units from Pine Creek and Punxsutawney fire departments along with the State Police, Pine Creek’s K-9 unit, and the fish and boat commission are also involved in the search effort.
No word yet if Birmingham has been found.
