The public will get a chance to walk through Horace Mann elementary today as part of the Indiana School District’s efforts to determine what to do with the building.
The district is holding an open house at Horace Mann from 3-7 PM. This will allow not only community members to take a closer look at the building, but it will also allow businesses, agencies and others interested in using the space for their own use in partnership with the district; and realtors and property managers who may have clients interested in the space a chance to look at it as well. The building is more than 100 years old and the is up for either potential closure or repurposing it for academic purposes or making it a community or career education center. Another option would be to rent parts of the building out to entrepreneurs or community partners.
An Act 780 Hearing on the future of the building was held on February 25th, and the district is in the middle of a 90-day cooling off period, where they continue to accept comments from the community about the school. You can submit the comments through the district website, www.iasd.cc.
