Maybe the only thing that can slow the Pirates down is the schedule…after a 5-0 start, the Pirates will get the day off today. Greg Brown has the story of the Bucs’ continuing winning streak.
Manager Derek Shelton appreciates the hot start to the season.
Conner Joe had two more hits and is batting .348 with an on-base percentage of .444. He says it’s important to set the table for the Bucs’ run producers.
Marco Gonzalez was in line for the win until Roansy Contreras let the Nationals back into the game in the 7th. Gonzalez threw five innings, giving up one run on four hits with two walks and two strikeouts. He said he was just trying to keep the team’s streak of good starting pitching going.
The Pirates will enjoy an off day today before Mitch Keller takes the mound tomorrow against former teammate Trevor Williams in game two of the series.
