It was certainly not the time for illness to sweep through the Penguins’ locker room, with a game against the powerhouse New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden and with the Pens clinging desperately to their hopes for the playoffs. But Sidney Crosby would not be denied. Paul Steigerwald has the recap of a historic night for Crosby.
Coach Mike Sullivan wasn’t even aware that Crosby was nearing another record, but he says nothing surprises him with Sid.
With Tristan Jarry scheduled to start in goal but falling ill to a stomach virus, Alex Ndeljkovic was called upon to make his fifth straight start. Sullivan appreciated the effort.
Crosby says Ndeljkovic stepped up under pressure.
Ndeljkovic is amazed that Crosby has played so well for so long.
In addition to Crosby’s two goals, the Penguins got two from Bryan Rust and a breakaway goal from Emil Bemstrom.
The Penguins are right back at it tonight, crossing over the Hudson River to play the Devils in New Jersey. The pregame airs at 6 o’clock, with faceoff shortly after 7 on 92.5 FM U92.
