Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi gave his team a gift on Monday, a trip to Kennywood Park as a reward for what he called a “great scrimmage” on Sunday at Heinz Field.
Narduzzi talked about players he said had a “winning scrimmage” and included Indiana High grad Jake Zilinskas on that list. The former walk-on quarterback earned a scholarship last year as a tight end.
Narduzzi said the coaches set their depth chart after the scrimmage, but he did not reveal any details of it. In addition to quarterback Kenny Pickett and others on the offense, he singled out Tre Tipton, the Apollo Ridge graduate who is back for a seventh season with the Panthers after multiple injuries and personal setbacks. The Panthers open the season September 4th at home against UMass.
The Big Ten, Pac-12, and ACC yesterday announced their new alliance. It includes scheduling opportunities between the conferences for football in addition to men’s and women’s basketball. It’ll also explore opportunities for Olympic sports to play more often. The alliance came after Texas and Oklahoma announced a move to the SEC from the Big 12. The agreement will not take effect for several years.
