SOFTBALL
Homer-Center scored two runs in the first, three in the second, and three more in the fourth inning to put away Northern Cambria, 8-3. Freeport scored three runs in the top of the 7th and downed Indiana, 5-3. Indiana scored a run in the first and two in the second to take a 3-0 lead, but they only managed four hits in the game, all singles, by Ella Myers, Haley Hamilton, Julia Antonacci, and Anna Carnavale.
BASEBALL
Indiana fell behind Dubois 6-0, but stormed back with two runs in the 5th, a single run in the 6th, and a five-run 7th, capped by a two-run single by Trevor Smith, who celebrated his birthday with the walkoff hit in an 8-7 win. The winning rally started with walks to Ben Ryen and Charlie Manzi, a single by Kadin Homer to load the bases, and after a foul out to first, Mark Collinger hit what should have been a double-play groundout, but DuBois botched the grounder and everyone was safe, with Ryen scoring. Michael Tortortella walked to force in a run, then Ethan Shank was hit by a pitch to force in another. Smith then lifted a wind-blown fly ball into left field that would normally have been a sacrifice fly to tie the game, but left fielder Danny Dixon lost the ball in the sun. It fell about forty feet away from him, with Collinger and Tortorella racing home with the runs that tied and won the game. Andrew McGee had three hits for Indiana, and Smith, Ryen, and Tristan Redinger each had two. McGee and Redinger both had doubles.
Northern Cambria took advantage of seven errors by Homer-Center in an 11-0 five-inning win at First Commonwealth Bank Field. The Colts scored five runs in the first inning and three in both the third and fourth to take the commanding lead. Ben Messina hit a two-run home run for NC. Only three of the Colts’ runs were earned.
West Shamokin went non-conference and routed Leechburg, 11-0. Jude Olinger had two hits including a home run. He drove in two runs. Max Long and Ben McConnell each had two hits and Long had a double and two RBIs.
