At a preliminary hearing on Friday, charges against a Philadelphia Man allegedly involved in a fatal shooting near the IUP campus last October were held for court.
Indiana County District Attorney Robert Manzi announced that 19-year-old Terrion Gates will stand trial for charges of criminal homicide, robbery-inflicting serious bodily injury and theft by unlawful taking for the shooting death of Jadeyn Wright. The hearing at District Judge Christopher Welch’s court lasted several hours, and assistant district attorney Gina Ryen Force represented the state in the case.
Police say Gates along with 20-year-old Isaiah Moore of Philadelphia, 20-year-old Delmar Chatman and 18-year-old Isabella Edmonds went to the Carriage House apartments to acquire marijuana from Wright, which lead to the shooting. All four suspects fled on foot. Gates was the last suspect to be apprehended by police.
In a statement, Manzi called the hearing an “important step towards holding the defendant accountable for his actions and providing justice to the victim’s family.” He also thanked the state and borough police, U.S. Marshals, and Detective John Scherf for their work in the case.
Gates will be scheduled for a formal arraignment hearing and pre-trial conference over the next few months.
