This morning, the Indiana County Commissioners approved an agreement with an Indiana architectural firm for the Indiana Welcome Center at the current home of First Commonwealth Bank at 6th and Philadelphia Street.
The agreement is with Upstreet Architects to provide architectural services. Indiana County Office of Planning and Development Executive Director Byron Stauffer talks about what they will be dealing with in their designs.
While the county will eventually own the building as a donation from First Commonwealth, this agreement will have no impact on the county general fund. The total lump sum fee, which will not exceed $20,200, will be paid for by the three tenants of the welcome center: the Tourist Bureau, the Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Indiana, Inc.
Commissioners also approved applying for HOME program funds through the state. The county hopes to receive $750,000 from the competitive grant for the county’s existing owner-occupied housing rehabilitation program.
The commissioners also proclaimed the month of April as both sexual assault awareness month and child abuse awareness month.
