After a travel day on Thursday, the Pirates return to action tonight against NL Central-rival St. Louis.
Here’s Joe Block with a preview of tonight’s series opener.
Airtime is 7:50 p.m. on WCCS 101.1 FM and AM 1160.
INJURY NEWS
The Pirates activated right-handed pitcher Miguel Yajure from the 60-day injured list yesterday prior to his third rehab start. He had been out since May with a back injury.
Yajure looked sharp in his rehab start with Triple-A Indianapolis last night, tossing four innings of one-run ball while striking out six hitters. It’s likely he could rejoin the Pirates soon, however that is still to be determined.
On the transaction front, it was announced that outfielders Ka’ai Tom and first baseman John Nogowski had cleared waivers and were optioned to Indianapolis. In addition, starting pitcher Steven Wright – the knuckleballer whom the Pirates signed to a minor league deal in spring training – was released.
MLB
The sports trading card world is watching the end of an era. MLB is ending it’s 70-year deal with trading card giant Topps. Instead, the MLB and Fanatics are striking an exclusive licensing agreement. Topps’ deal with Major League Baseball will wrap up in 2025. The company first began producing baseball cards in 1951. Fanatics’ deal with MLB is expected to generate over two billion dollars by 2045.
