With classes set to start on Monday, IUP President Dr. Michael Driscoll will deliver remarks to new and returning students this morning – an annual tradition to prepare them for what lies ahead for the upcoming school year.
Among topics that will be discussed will be events planned around the university, classes and how IUP will address health and safety measures in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The discussion will be available both in-person and via livestream, which can be found on the university’s YouTube page. That will begin at 9 a.m.
Driscoll said in an update video – something he did last year while students were online – that this is a great way to meet people before classes start.
Driscoll also said there will be an event on Sept. 2 that will address the 2020-2025 strategic plan for the university, where staff and students are encouraged to come and present ideas.
The event, called “Many Voices, One Future: The Road Ahead for IUP” and Driscoll said it is the next step in implementing the plan that launched in December 2020.
Driscoll said in the video that it is important for everyone’s voice to be heard, as it will help shape the university’s future.
Updates will be given by Driscoll and university leadership and students will be able to provide comments and ideas. This will be followed by interactive sessions and focus groups that will be open to faculty, students and managers.

Driscoll also reminded the IUP community that the annual 9/11 tribute ceremony will be held in the Oak Grove on Friday, Sept. 10 at 11:30 a.m.
