At a special meeting of the River Valley School Board on Tuesday night, the board had heated discussions over where the Panthers football team would play their games this season.
Before last night’s meeting, the games were scheduled to be played at the Blairsville campus, but Beverly Carnese advanced a motion to have the entire season played at the Saltsburg football field instead, citing recent reports that areas of the Blairsville field were not safe. Board President Rick Harper said that he felt that the better field was still at Blairsville.
After the motion failed to pass by a 5-3 vote, Carnese moved to have half the home schedule played at Saltsburg. That motion also failed, this time by a 4-4 vote. Carnese said that her main problem was that everything was being moved out of Saltsburg.
In other business, the board approved an agreement with Precision HR Solutions to furnish professional and non-professional substitute teachers for the next school year, and named David Marshall as the district’s acting director of finance and operations, effective immediately.
