UPDATE:
Unfortunately, the Teddy Bear Fund Drive softball/baseball games between Indiana and Homer-Center on Saturday have been postponed. A makeup date will hopefully be arranged.
******
The annual Teddy Bear Fund Drive baseball – and softball – game will be played this Saturday at the Homer City Booster Complex in Center Township.
Homer-Center and Indiana will meet for the eighth time in the baseball game, which starts at 6 p.m., at First Commonwealth Bank Field.
The game will follow the very first Teddy Bear Fund Drive softball game between the same schools at the same facility at 3:30 p.m.
The games represent just one event in each Teddy Bear Fund Drive campaign but a very important event. The game normally has kicked off each new campaign since 2008.
Last year the game was postponed due to rain and was never made up, but two years ago, the game alone raised $1,851.50. Money is raised through admission, raffles, and 50-50 tickets, as well as donations.
The Teddy Bear Fund Drive, a charity of Renda Broadcasting in Indiana, benefits the Pediatrics Unit at IRMC and the Free Care Fund at Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh. The charity has raised in excess of $2,700,000 in its first 37 years, including more than $114,266.71 last year, for needed equipment.
Indiana leads the Teddy Bear Fund Drive series, 4-3, having won the last three meetings.
Both games will be broadcast on AM 1450 WDAD and 100.3 FM and streamed on MSA Sports, with the softball pre-game at 3:15 p.m. and the baseball pre-game at 5:45 p.m.
