About 24 hours after the Indiana School District’s Buildings, Grounds and Transportation Committee narrowed down their reconfiguration options, Indiana Borough Council brought the topic up during their meeting.
Three of the plans that were advanced involved closing at least one of the elementary schools. Borough council has been against the district reconfiguration as they do not want to see one of the two elementary schools located in the borough closed, according to councilman Ben Ford.
To that end, the borough will send a letter to the district reminding them of a resolution passed in 2019 that stated the council is against the closure of either of the borough’s schools.
Also last night, borough council congratulated recently-retired Indiana Borough Police Officer Jenny Lenhart, who served 19 years as an officer, with most of her time on the force dedicated to the school crossing guard program, traffic safety presentations to local schools, traffic studies through town and served as a liaison to the parking department. Chief Justin Schawl called her an excellent officer.

Chief Schawl presented her with the department’s community service medal and the Wesley R. Hite Professional Award.
