The Penguins climbed back into second place, leap frogging Columbus, by beating Carolina, 3-2, on Sunday night.
Pittsburgh (48-19-11) is one point ahead of the Columbus Blue Jackets and five points behind the Washington Capitals in the division. The Penguins received help from the Capitals, who also defeated the Blue Jackets, 3-2, on Sunday.
Jake Guentzel gave the Penguins a 1-0 lead with his 13th goal at 11:28 of the first period. Conor Sheary made it 3-1 with a power-play goal at 5:07 of the third, and Matt Murray made 33 saves for Pittsburgh.
The Penguins won a second straight game to end their three-game home losing streak.
