The Penguins ended a four-game losing streak with a 4-3 shootout win against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Friday.
The Penguins (47-19-11) are one point behind the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Sidney Crosby and Phil Kessel scored in the shootout. The Rangers did not score a shootout goal.
Crosby also scored his NHL-leading 43rd goal of the season and had an assist on Jake Guentzel’s goal. Bryan Rust also scored and Matt Murray made 30 saves for Pittsburgh.
