A seventh straight loss for the Pirates last night as they were dominated by the Cardinals’ Adam Wainwright.
Joe Block has the recap.
Pirates manager Derek Shelton says Wainwright was a master of the curveball last night.
Shelton suggested the Pirates have gotten to the point where they simply need to find better ballplayers.
The series concludes this afternoon at PNC Park with JT Brubaker [4-11] starting for the Bucs against Wade LeBlanc [0-2]. Airtime is 12:10 on WCCS.
The weekly injury report from director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk yesterday included updates on reliever Sam Howard and outfielder Ben Gamel. Howard is recovering from a right oblique strain that has kept him out since July 13th. He threw live batting practice yesterday and felt and looked good, according to Tomczyk. Gamel, who has been out since last week with a hamstring strain, could return next week. He’s eligible to come off the injured list on Sunday.
Minor league pitchers Miguel Yajure and Roansy Contreras and shortstop Oneil Cruz, who have all been out for several months with forearm strains, are all making progress toward a return, but the minor league season only has a couple of weeks left in it.
