VFW Post 1989 has announced that it has acquired land for a new permanent home.
The post’s Vice Commander Donald “DJ” Strotman announced the veterans organization has secured 2.39 acres of land off Airport Road near the Jimmy Stewart Airport in White Township. The VFW has been meeting at a temporary headquarters in a storefront on Renaissance Circle along Oakland Avenue after it moved out of its former headquarters along Indian Springs Road. The property, which included the Indian Springs Golf and Country Club, was sold to a private buyer for $600,000 in February, but the property owner allowed the group to hold a few meetings there before it moved to the temporary home in March.

Strotman said that now they have secured the property, they now have to secure money to fund the building project. Also, the post will work with White Township to secure permits and find local builders to work on the project. Ideally, they want to start building in the spring.
