BASEBALL
High school baseball got underway yesterday with a big win for River Valley, which beat United 12-0.
The Panthers scored eight runs in the first two innings in a 6-inning Mercy Rule game. Caden Vresilovec, Sam Yanits, and Eric Dinger each had two hits and Hunter Riggle launched a solo home run in the 5th inning.
The Panthers had eleven hits. Niko Vadala, Hunter Riggle, and Gavin Burkhart combined to strike out seven and walk just three for River Valley. Isaac Worthington had two hits, including a double, for United.
SOFTBALL
River Valley also opened its softball season with a 12-0 win over United, and a big third inning fueled the Panthers’ win.
The Panthers scored eight runs on five hits in the frame. Sara Bollinger collected 10 strikeouts in the circle while going 2-for-2 at the plate. Bailey Dunlap went 1-for-2 with three RBI.
Abby McConville and Preslee Metil each tallied a hit for United.
