Oneil Cruz bombed two home runs and the Pirates walloped the Phillies, 11-2 in spring training baseball yesterday in Clearwater. Cruz was 3-for-4 with six RBIs and he was joined in the home run parade by first baseman Rowdy Tellez. Both of them hit three-run homers and Cruz added a solo shot.
The Pirates lead all of baseball in home runs, with 46, tying the team record set in 2006 and 2018.
Like Cruz, Ke’Bryan Hayes was 3-for-4 and the Pirates also had two-hit games by Tellez, Henry Davis, Jared Triolo, and Billy McKinney. The Bucs had 16 hits in the game.
Martin Perez gave up two runs on five hits and two walks, striking out eight in five innings.
The Pirates have their final off day of spring training today.
