Starling Marte hit a grand slam in the fifth inning, but it was not enough to lift the Pirates over the Boston Red Sox in a 10-7 loss Thursday afternoon in Grapefruit League action.
Pirates righty Drew Hutchison gave up five runs in the first inning. The Red Sox collected 10 hits and six runs on Hutchison in 4 2/3 innings.
The Pirates fell to 16-8.
