An Indiana County man has been charged with sexually assaulting a young New Florence girl.
State police in Greensburg on Monday filed nine felony offenses against 19-year-old Michael Troy Matson of Robinson: Two for involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child; three for indecent assault of a person less than 13 years of age; three for corruption of minors; and one for aggravated indecent assault of a victim less than 13 years old.
Police say they tracked Matson down using his Snapchat account and that of the girl after a relative of the girls reported that she and Matson, who was unidentified at the time, had exchanged nude photos and had been having inappropriate online exchanges. The two met for sexual exchanges numerous times in May, including occasions in New Florence Park.
Examinations of both Matson’s phone and the girl’s revealed hundreds of messages. The girl claimed she was 14 years old and Matson said that could get him in trouble, but he told police she had said she was 17. Police say Matson admitted the pair had sex but said he was never “in a relationship” with the victim. He also acknowledged that they had exchanged nude photos.
Matson is free on $50,000 bond with a preliminary hearing scheduled a week from today before District Judge Denise Thiel in Ligonier.
