The Center Township Supervisors announced some road construction projects that will be coming up later this year.
One of them is the Bethel Church Road Bridge Replacement project, which will be partially funded by money from PennDOT. Township Supervisors President John Bertolino said this project was delayed for a year due to road construction elsewhere. The planned detour for the project, which would have utilized Route 56 and Edgewood roads, was under construction in 2016, and the township wanted to wait until that construction was finished before using those roads as a detour. Bethel Church Road in the area of the project would be closed for three and a half months.
The other project concerns improvements to roads and drainage in the Altman area, and the township will receive over $70,000 in Community Development Block Grant funds for that project. A start date for that project is not known yet, as there are still more steps to the process before engineering work can start.
In other business, the township supervisors re-elected Bertolino as the Chairman of the Board and Dave “Butch” Smyers was re-elected as the board vice-chairman.
