The Penguins were desperate for points yesterday as they took on Detroit, a day after losing to the New York Rangers in a sloppy performance. And they got the two points they needed with a win over the Red Wings. Paul Steigerwald has the recap. (6-3 win.)
Coach Mike Sullivan says unlike Saturday, the Penguins’ defense was solid.
Sullivan liked the Penguins’ offensive balance and their ability to attack off their defense.
With 69 points, the Penguins are only five points out of the second and final Wild Card slot in the East, but there are a bunch of teams battling to catch the Red Wings, who currently hold that spot. The Islanders and Capitals are a point away from Detroit, the Sabres are tied with the Penguins, and the Devils are just a point behind.
The Penguins play the Devils tomorrow night in New Jersey.
