The Steelers are getting set to open their preseason schedule tomorrow night against Dallas in the Hall of Fame Game in Canton.
Coach Mike Tomlin says it will be a special night, especially since five members of the Steelers family will be inducted into the Hall this weekend.
Tomlin said select veteran players such as Ben Roethlisberger, Joe Haden, and Cam Heyward will not be in uniform, but first-round draft choice Najee Harris will be on the field. He says the running back and other newcomers need as much work as they can get in the preseason.
You might not see second-round draft choice Pat Freiermuth in the game. The tight end from Penn State left practice yesterday with a shoulder injury. Receiver Ray-Ray McCloud was also out with an undisclosed injury.
And Steelers owner Art Rooney II said yesterday that he hopes the team gets linebacker TJ Watt signed to a new contract before the season starts. The Steelers don’t negotiate once training camp ends and Watt is scheduled to become a free agent after this year. Rooney also did not rule out re-signing Ben Roethlisberger after the season ends.
The Hall of Fame game tomorrow airs on WDAD, 100.3 FM and 1450 AM, starting at 6:00.
