The Steelers announced the successor of color analyst for this year’s Steelers Radio Network coverage earlier this morning.
The team announced on their website that former offensive lineman Craig Wolfley will join Bill Hillgrove in the broadcast booth this season, taking over for Steelers legend Tunch Ilkin, who held that position for many years before announcing his retirement earlier this year due to health concerns. Wolfley recently served as sideline reporter for Steelers game day broadcasts and held that position since 2002.
Wolfley said he looks forward to working with the Steelers broadcast team and he said it was “an incredible honor knowing the people who proceeded me in this seat and a lineage I hope I do justice to.”
Along with the promotion of Wolfley, another former Steelers lineman in Max Starks will join the broadcast team as a sideline reporter and pregame show co-host. Starks won two Super Bowls with Pittsburgh (40, 43) and recently served as sideline reporter for Westwood One.
Starks said that he is honored to be back on the Steelers sidelines once again, trading his helmet for a radio headset, and he’s excited to join the Steelers Radio Network and “keep the Lineman tradition alive on the broadcasts.”
Missi Matthews will still be on the sideline, as she and Starks will share sideline reporting duties.
The first Steelers broadcast is the Hall of Fame Game, which is scheduled for this Thursday. Airtime on WDAD AM 1450 and 100.3 FM is 6 p.m.
