The Pirates plated five runs in the third inning against the Phillies’ likely Opening Day starter, Jeremy Hellickson, and defeated Philadelphia, 13-8, in Grapefruit League action Saturday at Spectrum Field.
Pirates right fielder John Jaso smacked a three-run homer, a double, drew a walk, scored three runs and drove in four. Eury Perez and Elias Diaz hit their first homers of the spring in the fifth and ninth innings, respectively.
Tyler Glasnow held Philadelphia to one run on four hits in four innings.
The Pirates improved to 14-7.
