Just a day after introducing Russell Wilson as a free agent acquisition and trading erstwhile starter Kenny Pickett to the Eagles, the Steelers yesterday traded a conditional sixth round 2025 draft pick to the Bears for quarterback Justin Fields. If Fields plays more than half of the Steelers’ offensive snaps this season, the pick will become a fourth-rounder.
The Steelers have to decide whether or not to offer Fields a fifth-year option by May 2nd, which would qualify him to collect a $25.664 million salary in 2025. He will count only $3.23 million against the salary cap in ’24.
Fields was the number eleven overall pick in the NFL draft in 2021. He was 10-28 in three years as the Bears’ starting QB. In 2023, he was 5-8 as a starter, missing four games with a thumb injury. He led the Bears in rushing, and threw 16 touchdown passes with nine interceptions.
