It was a shootout at the PPG Paints Arena, but the Pens came out on top with a 6-4 victory over the New Jersey Devils.
The Devils got on the board first as Kyle Palmieri scored at the 5:35 mark of the First Period. Phil Kessel scored just over a minute later to notch his 22nd of the year. The Pens took the lead with Jake Guentzel’s at the 13:30 mark, but that lead was short-lived as Stefan Noesen scored 32 seconds later. With 15 seconds to go in the period, Sidney Crosby scored his 36th goal of the season. In the second, the Pens extended their lead with Nick Bonino’s at the 15:47 mark. Former Penguin Beau Bennett scored within the last minute of the second period to cut the deficit by one goal. In the third, Carter Rowney got his first NHL goal at the 5:17 mark of the 3rd, and while Palmieri got his second of the game at the 16:29 mark, Sidney Crosby got his second of the game within the final minute of play to keep the deficit at two goals for the end.
