The Steelers start preparations today for Thursday night’s preseason opener, the Hall of Fame game in Canton, Ohio against the Dallas Cowboys.
Coach Mike Tomlin will be working with a patchwork offensive line, as most of the projected starters have missed all or part of training camp so far. The two tackles, Zach Banner and Chuks Okorafor, have watched camp from the sidelines, as has guard Kevin Dotson. Center JC Hassenauer has also been out along with center/guard BJ Finney. Rookie Kendrick Green has gotten most of the work at center and fellow draftee Dan Moore has worked at tackle, with free agent signee Joe Haeg at the other tackle. A mix of free agents and rookies have been at guard along with free agent signee and projected starter Trai Turner.
Prized first-round draft pick Najee Harris says it doesn’t matter to him who is on the offensive line on Thursday, his job as a running back is to make tacklers miss when they beat the blocker.
Troy Polamalu rarely missed games during his career, but he is officially questionable for his Hall of Fame induction on Saturday in Canton, Ohio. Polamalu has announced that he has tested positive for covid-19. The Hall has said it will work with health officials to determine whether Polamalu could be cleared in time for Saturday’s enshrinement.
Polamalu is one of five Steelers scheduled for entry into the Hall. The others are players Donnie Shell and Alan Faneca, coach Bill Cowher, and Bill Nunn in the contributor category.
Thursday’s Hall of Fame game will air on WDAD, 100.3 FM and 1450 AM, at 6:00.
