With this weekend being St. Patrick’s Day weekend, there are a lot of celebrations expected, and PennDOT is reminding motorists about some things to keep in mind if you plan on celebrating and driving.
State and local police departments will be out in full force for the weekend looking for people who have been drinking and driving. People are also reminded that not only alcohol can impair people behind the wheel, but marijuana and other drugs can also affect someone’s abilities behind the wheel. They advise that if drinking is involved in celebrations, a designated driver should be used, or using public transportation, a taxi or ride share service in order to get home safely.
PennDOT said that last year during the St. Patrick’s celebration, there were 56 alcohol-related crashes across the state, resulting in two people being killed and 32 others were injured.
