The Pirates had been active with trades all week, and that was no different on the final day of trading.
To start the day, the Pirates swapped Triple-A pitching prospect Braeden Ogle for Philadelphia’s Abrahan Gutierrez. Gutierrez was supposed to be involved in the trade that would have sent Tyler Anderson to Philly on Tuesday, but when that trade fell through, Pirates GM Ben Cherrington traded Anderson to Seattle. The 21-year-old Gutierrez, ranked the No. 27 prospect in the Phillies’ system by Baseball America, was batting .288 with 10 doubles, five home runs, 32 RBIs, a .420 on-base percentage and an .850 OPS for Low-A Clearwater.
Then minutes after the 4:00 PM trade deadline, the Pirates announced they had traded closer Richard Rodriguez to the Atlanta Braves for right handers Bryse Wilson and Ricky DeVito, and left-handed reliever Austin Davis was sent to Boston for infielder Michael Chavis.
