Time is running out for prospective elk hunters who want to submit an application for Pennsylvania’s annual elk-license drawing.
The Pennsylvania Game Commission said in a statement that drawing a tag means getting to participate in “a hunt that’s big on opportunity, with some of it new in 2021-22.”
Pennsylvania is home to more than 1,300 elk, marking the largest wild herd in the northeastern United States, and some bulls are “world class animals,” according to the Game Commission, which is among the largest to be found anywhere. This is significant since there are 20 more bull elk tags up for grabs than there were last year.
Overall, 187 elk licenses have been allocated for this year’s hunt. Applications for the license drawing are available at huntfishpa.gov and the cost is $11.97 per application.
The deadline for applications is tomorrow, July 31.
