Goaltender Brian Elliott stopped Evgeni Malkin, Sidney Crosby and Phil Kessel in the shootout.
Conor Sheary, Malkin, and Crosby scored in regulation, and Marc-Andre Fleury made 27 saves for the Penguins (43-16-9), who ended a five-game winning streak but moved into a tie with the Washington Capitals for first place in the Metropolitan Division and NHL.
