The Pirates’ Roansy Contreras had a rough outing yesterday, walking six batters and allowing four runs in four innings of work. The Bucs lost to Toronto, 10-3. Blue Jays starter Chris Bassitt held down the Bucs’ hitters, giving up just a 6th inning home run to Oneil Cruz, who hit a home run for the fourth straight day. Bassitt struck out nine and left after 5-and-a-third innings.
The Pirates and Orioles will play a regular Grapefruit League game at 1 o’clock, with Marco Gonzalez starting for the Bucs. After that game, the top prospects for the two teams will meet in the MLB Spring Breakout at 7 tonight. Paul Skenes will start for the Pirates against top Orioles pitching prospect Cade Povich.

- Closer David Bednar has increased his throwing program but still isn’t throwing off a slope.
- Catcher Yasmani Grandal will not begin running for at least another week. He’s suffering from plantar fasciitis.
- Pitcher Dauri Moreta will visit with orthopedic surgeon Dr. Keith Meister to determine the next treatment step for his injured right elbow ligament.
- Highly-rated pitching prospect Thomas Harrington has a sore shoulder and has been scratched from today’s Spring Breakout.
- Pitcher JT Brubaker has thrown off a mound three times and is on pace for a return to game action sometime around the All-Star break.

The San Diego Padres have acquired White Sox starting pitcher Dylan Cease in a trade for four players, including Top 100 prospect Drew Thorpe, a right-handed pitcher.
Former Pirate Gerrit Cole will miss at least the first month or two of the season and is scheduled to have further testing on his right elbow.
