Pennsylvania’s department of Labor and Industry has announced that January’s unemployment rate remained unchanged.
The seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate held steady at 3.4% over the month, which is four-tenths of a percentage point lower than January of 2023. Pennsylvania’s Civilian labor force, which is the estimated number of residents working or looking for work, was up 6000 over the month due to a gain in resident employment while unemployment was unchanged in December.
The total number of non-farm jobs went up 14,000 over the month to a total of 6,129,900, marking the sixth consecutive record high for Pennsylvania’s job count. Jobs went up in eight of the 11 industry super-sectors with the largest gains in education and health systems.
By comparison, the United States unemployment rate is 3.7% Local statistics are expected later this month.
