Two local communities were awarded nearly $2.8 million in grant and loan money by the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) earlier today. One of those communities is located in Indiana County.
Senator Joe Pittman said in a news release that Glen Campbell received two payments totaling just over $1.1 million from PENNVEST, which will go towards replacing a water storage tank and equipment at its water treatment plant. Some features that will be replaced include filter units, softeners and brine unit, the groundwater well pump, and distribution pumps.
When broken down, Glen Campbell will receive a grant worth $923,616, while a low-interest loan covers the remainder of funds. It is worth $187,384.
Pittman called this investment “long overdue,” and State Representative Brian Smith said that this is “an important project to ensure that Glen Campbell Borough residents continue to have safe clean water for years to come.
Ford City in Armstrong County will receive the remaining $1.6 million out of the $2.8 million awarded. Those funds will be put towards approximately 2,650 feet of water main with lead joins along the 5th Ave. area between 14th and 17th St.
