It was a quick knockdown for fire crews at a fire in a residential section of Indiana Borough this morning.
Indiana County 911 reported the fire at 6:58 this morning on 234 South 11th Street. Indiana Borough Police, Indiana Fire Association and Citizens Ambulance were initially dispatched to the scene. Matt Byerly of the Indiana Fire Association said that the fire started in the kitchen and was a grease fire that expanded into the kitchen itself. Crews got a quick knockdown of the fire, and while most of the fire damage was in the kitchen, Byerly said that there was fire, smoke and water damage through the rest of the house. After the fire was put out, crews stayed on the scene to check for hot spots and ventilate the smoke.
The house was deemed uninhabitable. Two adults and two children were displaced by the fire, but the American Red Cross has been called in to help the family.
