With training camp about to start, linebacker Vince Williams announced his retirement yesterday, leaving a void on the inside for the Steelers. Williams was let go in a salary cap move after last season, but re-signed to a one-year deal in April at a reduced salary. Drafted by the Steelers in the sixth round in 2013, Williams played his entire career in Pittsburgh.
Williams started fourteen games last year and made 70 tackles, fourteen of them for a loss. He had three sacks.
The first workouts of training camp begin today at the Steelers complex on the South Side. Rookies were required to report yesterday and veterans must report by Tuesday, but most of them are already there, including Ben Roethlisberger, TJ Watt, Joe Haden, and others.
